There are immigrant rights organizations that could identify someone in need. If you want to help someone local I’d reach out to a community groups. Otherwise there are organizations like the one mentioned in the story that may also be able to connect you with someone. Read more

What is particularly troubling is that often times gay and trans detainees in immigration detention face the same types of attacks they dealt with back in their countries. One of every 500 detainees in ICE detention is transgender but they represent one fifth of all confirmed sexual assault cases in ICE facilities.
The groups in El Salvador could definitely use funds to pay for legal services and to help women in prison with basic supplies... but they don’t have an online donation system in place or a US bank account where folks can transfer funds. I suspect they’ve never heard of Gofund Me. Read more
