Betsy DeVos Struggles to Answer Simple Question About Whether Schools Can Call ICE on Students

Senator Chris Murphy, a Democrat from Connecticut, repeatedly questioned Education Secretary Betsy DeVos during on hearing on Tuesday about whether a teacher or school principal is allowed to call Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials to report an undocumented student.

DeVos, who’s no stranger to dodging the question at hand, gave non-answer after non-answer.

“You seem to be very purposefully not be giving a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer,” Murphy finally told her.

After some more excruciating back and forth, Murphy pressed her one last time, asking: “So they can’t call ICE?”

“I don’t think they can,” DeVos finally answered.

We’ll see how long that holds up.
