Darren Martin, a former White House staffer under President Obama who now works for the New York City government, was trying to move into his new Upper West Side apartment late Friday night when he was suddenly surrounded by cops.

“Somebody called the cops on me in my own building,” he said in cell phone video he took of the incident, in which he noted that around six officers responded to the 911 call. The caller had reported that he was trying to break into his own apartment, may have had a weapon, and was on the roof.

He documented the whole incident on Twitter as an example of moving while black.
