Fox News reporter John Roberts criticized Twitter on Monday for being a “toxic cesspool of anger, hatred and intolerance.” It’s “leading to the decline of civility,” he added.
Roberts was responding to New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman’s tweet that she’s (mostly) taking a break from Twitter. Haberman explained that she felt Twitter wasn’t “really helping the discourse.”
Something that went unmentioned by Roberts is that he is working for one of the main generators of uncivil discourse in the United States. Fox News is a toxic cesspool of anger, hatred and intolerance, especially in the Trump era.
To pick just two examples (there are so, so many), remember the time Fox News contributor David Bossie told black Democratic strategist Joel Payne that he was “out of his cotton-picking mind”? Or when Corey Lewandowski replied “womp womp” to a story about a ten-year-old girl with Down syndrome who was taken from her mother and put in a cage?
Roberts wasn’t finished. “Twitter has become the mob,” he continued.
Do you know who you work for John????
