As we near the two-week mark on the latest government shutdown under the Trump administration, the sofa-occupiers at Fox & Friends would like the viewing public to know that as much of a hassle this has been, it’s all totally worth it because, hey, none of us are being murdered in our beds by scary immigrants, right?
Noting that the shutdown of a number of non-essential government agencies—like national parks, monuments, and the National Zoo—was something of a pain during the holiday season, Fox & Friends host Ainsley Earhardt offered this heartwarming defense of President Donald Trump’s totally well thought out, not at all knee-jerk reactionary shutdown plan (emphasis mine):
It is an inconvenience, yes. But the president is saying most of the people are good people, but there are some bad apples in the group. And even though it is an inconvenience, he’s saying that your safety, and your security as an American—he said that you deserve to be able to go to sleep at night and not have to worry about being killed by an illegal immigrant.
If nothing else, this seems like a pretty telling insight into what Earhardt thinks of as a typical Fox News devotee these days: an insomniac racist who can’t catch a wink of sleep because they’re worried about being killed to death by some imaginary “illegal.”
“And we’ve seen that happen,” Earhardt continued. “We’ve seen—there’s so many moms and dads that we’ve interviewed that say “yes, it’s very rare that this is gonna happen. But it can happen and it happened to my child. And the president is saying ‘I want to prevent other families from going through that loss.’”
What’re the odds we hear Trump say almost these exact words the next time he makes public remarks? Pretty good, I’d say!
