The president of the United States is set to officially meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in just a few hours, so naturally his daughter and adviser Ivanka Trump has something to say about it. Or at least she has a random “proverb” to passive aggressively tweet about it:
In classic Ivanka Trump fashion (aka knockoff Ann Taylor Loft), the tweet is vague and fails to address the thing it’s trying so hard to look like it’s not addressing. It’s her “trolls” tweet all over again, casting people who are concerned about human rights and the lives of the most vulnerable as “haters.” Also, quoting a “Chinese proverb” whose origins seem about as hazy as everyone’s favorite “African proverb” is a good touch.
If we’re in fact talking about Donald Trump meeting with a man with a huge track record of human rights violations who is largely assumed to have overseen executions and other alleged crimes against humanity, it’s not a matter of if it can be done, but if it should be done. And if “those doing it” are idiots lending legitimacy to authoritarianism, it’s our duty to question that!
But let’s hear it for Ivanka Trump, a brave, worldly (“Chinese proverb”), and very wise defender of, as Fox & Friends calls them, “the two dictators.”
