It seems as though President Trump’s tweets are once again causing him serious legal trouble.
Special counsel Robert Mueller told Trump’s lawyers that his team will be looking into Trump’s tweets to determine whether they bolster a case for obstruction of justice, the New York Times reported on Thursday.
Mueller will specifically be looking into tweets and negative statements regarding Attorney General Jeff Sessions, former FBI Director James Comey and former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, the paper wrote. The tweets may collectively serve as evidence to prove that Trump tried to mess with FBI’s investigation into Russian interference in the elections.
Trump, as we all know all too deeply, can never keep his mouth shut on Twitter, and has used it to repeatedly attack all three people mentioned above.
The president’s attorney, Rudy Giuliani, dismissed the notion that Trump’s tweets might amount to obstruction of justice. “If you’re going to obstruct justice, you do it quietly and secretly, not in public,” Giuliani told the Times.
Trump has already said he’d be willing to do an interview with Mueller. On Monday, Giuliani told Bloomberg News that Trump would do so as long as investigators only ask about whether he colluded with the Russian government.
