Would it shock you to learn that Sarah Huckabee Sanders has, once again, proven herself to be utterly full of shit?
Still, you’ve got to be impressed with just how brazen Sanders’ lies have gotten lately. In particular, there’s her recent whopper that “nearly 4,000 known or suspected terrorists come into our country illegally, and we know that our most vulnerable point of entry is the Southern border.” This is the sort of claim that seemed so outrageous that even Fox News’ Chris Wallace called BS on it during a live interview with Sanders.
Now, thanks to NBC News, we have some hard numbers to prove just how full of it Sanders really is. According to Department of Homeland Security data, just six people on the United States terrorism watch list were apprehended by Customs and Border Patrol agents at the southern border in the first half of 2018.
Not 4,000. Six.
Okay, actually that’s not quite true. Technically, according to NBC, there were 41 people on the United States’ Terrorist Screening Database who were apprehended at the southern border between October 2017 and March 2018. Of that number, 35 were actually U.S. citizens or lawful residents. Incidentally, NBC reported, there were nearly twice as many people from the database stopped at the northern border—41 of whom weren’t citizens or lawful residents.
In any case, you’d think that after years of barfing up obvious falsehoods for the president, Sanders would know not to make bogus claims that, oh, I dunno, might be easily disproven. Which means either she’s getting worse at lying for a living, or just doesn’t care anymore. Maybe both.
