There’s a scene in 1979's The Jerk where Steve Martin’s titular character survives an assassination attempt while working at an auto garage and, surveying the damage around him, completely misses the fact that someone is trying to kill him. Instead, the Jerk concludes, the unseen gunman must instead “hate these cans!”
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, a very different kind of jerk, leapt to a similar type of conclusion on Friday, telling Fox & Friends that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s opposition to President Donald Trump’s anti-immigrant politics clearly means that, actually, she must hate walls. All walls. Perhaps even...yours!
“I wonder if she’s gonna go on a crusade and take down all the fences and walls across this country. I certainly hope not,” Sanders opined, when asked about Pelosi’s comments that the president’s anti-immigrant wall was “an immorality.”
“I’m sure that the people that have them around their homes, the institutions that have them—whether it’s the Vatican or anywhere else—are not gonna be real happy with the fact that Nancy Pelosi is calling their walls and their security ‘immoral,” Sanders continued.
This is the future liberals want—an endless flat field without walls or laws or anything.
