Donald Trump did not have a good weekend. Maybe that’s why he’s trying to calm his unsettled nerves with the thing he loves the most: horrifying racism.
Over the past 48 hours, Trump was accused of being a literal Russian agent, and there were polls showing that he and his party are being roundly, and accurately, blamed for the shutdown crisis.
So perhaps that’s why Trump went to his happy place, and launched yet another racist attack on senator and 2020 presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren.
This one, however, came with a reference to one of the most infamous massacres of Native people in American history: Wounded Knee.
Between 150 and 300 Native Americans were slaughtered by U.S. forces at Wounded Knee. Here is how one article describes the aftermath:
Army general Nelson Miles visited this killing field a few days later. He expressed shock that women with babies in their arms had been shot down, several miles from the initial “battle” site, indicating that soldiers systematically hunted down all who fled.
But hey, what’s a little joke about a massacre between friends?
