It might be hard for little-brains like you and I to discern what President Donald Trump does in the White House on a day-to-day basis. But according to those in the know, there is in fact an overarching doctrine guiding this administration. Here it is, in full: “We’re America, Bitch.”

This perfect distillation of the Trump mindset (vulgar, bumper-sticker ready, and painfully meaningless) comes courtesy of a “senior White House official with direct access to the president and his thinking,” who offered some insight into the complex inner workings of the administration to The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg. And Goldberg, tip-top journalist that he is, just had to learn more:
I asked this official to explain the idea. “Obama apologized to everyone for everything. He felt bad about everything.” President Trump, this official said, “doesn’t feel like he has to apologize for anything America does.” I later asked another senior official, one who rendered the doctrine not as “We’re America, Bitch” but as “We’re America, Bitches.”
Sure, it’s a subtle modification, but it’s one which proves an important point: this White House embraces serious and consequential disagreements among its staff—like whether its doctrine is in response to a single bitch or a whole cadre of bitches. Inspiring!
