I’m not sure what’s more sad: That former White House advisor and chief bigot Steve Bannon has been reduced to doing the local GOP dinner party circuit, or the fact that even that gig doesn’t seem to be working out so well for a man who once held one of the most powerful jobs in the country.
In Florida, according to the Tampa Bay Times, the Hillsborough County Republican Party has slashed prices for its upcoming “Trump Anniversary Dinner” for which Bannon, who has spent his post-administration life stocking up on collared shirts and racist conspiracy theories, is slated to headline. And when I say “slashed,” I mean dropping the top-level tickets from $20,000 to $5,000 and its next tier from $1,000 to $300—drops of 70 percent or more each. (The group has also added a special “no alcohol, no meal” student ticket option for just $15 dollars, for the aspiring racist who’d like to learn from a master on an empty stomach.)
“Please join us in celebration and to hear this amazing speaker and former strategist for President TRUMP,” the group wrote on their event website, which advertises “new special pricing” for the event. Attendees will also be subjected to a screening of the Bannon-produced documentary Trump @War, which seems risky considering many of them will have just eaten.
I have reached out to the Hillsborough County GOP to determine why they opted for the sudden, last-minute price drop, and will update this story if they respond.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, the group wrote that they wanted to “pack the house” by dropping the prices, which necessarily raises the question: How much is too much to pay to hear a bloated, aging racist pontificate over the sound of clattering silverware?
