Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau may have won the hearts of liberals and Ivanka Trump with his kind words for the LGBTQ community, Muslims, women, and twee socks, but sometimes there is such a thing as being too woke. Take for example, Trudeau’s recent interaction at a town hall meeting at MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta. A woman in the audience asked Trudeau to look into an issue regarding “religious charitable organizations” and the volunteer work that they do. She went on to say, “Maternal love is the love that’s going to change the future of mankind,” but before she could go further, she was interrupted by the PM.
“We like to say ‘peoplekind,’ not necessarily ‘mankind,’” Trudeau said, displaying a magnificent lack of self-awareness.
Justin sweetie, you’re doing great, but interrupting a woman talking about how women can change the world and correcting her language to tell her what is more inclusive is not a good look. Even if she is reportedly from a South Korean Christian feminist organization some refer to as a cult, it’s really not the best moment to get into feminist-rooted semantics.
Amen, or as Trudeau would put it, A-people.
